Gluttony!! The day after 9/11 a lot of folks in New Orleans showed their patriotism by shoving plastic cups into chain link fences to spell out “USA”. Those plastic (meaning petroleum derived) cups, shoved into fences and left to break down into particles small enough to enter the food chain, are worth fighting oil wars for, right? Why think about where our resources come from, or where they’re going?
Of all the satirist printmakers, Daumier and Goya are my favorites, but this image was more influenced by the 18th century satirists like William Hogarth that appeared in popular papers.
